Hey there! Ever thought about how cool it would be to start your day with a splash? Well, the Desert Falcons did just that with their first water training of the year! On Saturday, January 4th, this awesome team kicked off 2025 with an early Morning Row that was equal parts challenging and fun. Let me tell you all about it!
Rise and Shine for the Morning Row

The day began super early—like, 5:45 AM early! While most of us were probably still dreaming about New Year’s fireworks, the Desert Falcons were already up and ready to go. By 6:30 AM, they were loading up, and by 6:45 AM, the training officially began. Talk about dedication!
The team was led by their steerer, Bols, who’s like the captain of the boat. Her job? To keep everyone in sync and make sure the boat glides smoothly through the water. And with a team as big as this one, that’s no small task!
On the Left (Bow) side, we had Ferdz, Gob, Len, Niel, Khaled, Mahmoud, and Dennis. On the Right (Stroke) side, there was Manny, Jobai, JJ, Lambert, Nafih, Babiker, and Yti. A mix of seasoned paddlers and fresh energy—perfect for a great start to the year!
Oh, and let’s not forget the dress code: rash guards or orange jerseys. Rash guards are awesome for water activities because they protect your skin from the sun and keep you comfortable. If you’re curious about why rash guards are so popular, check out this guide to rash guards from REI. Orange jerseys, on the other hand, are all about team spirit. Either way, the Falcons were looking sharp and ready to row!
Paddling into 2025
The Falcons covered an impressive distance of 5,699 meters during their Morning Row. That’s like rowing from one end of a really, really long beach to the other! The moving time was 59 minutes and 23 seconds, which means they were paddling non-stop for almost an hour. But the entire training session lasted from 6:45 AM to 8:01 AM. That’s over an hour of teamwork, sweat, and maybe a few splashes here and there.
What makes this training session so special? It’s not just about the distance or the time—it’s about the teamwork. Rowing in sync, listening to the steerer, and pushing through the fatigue together is what builds a strong team. And let’s be honest, it’s also a lot of fun! There’s something magical about being out on the water early in the morning, surrounded by teammates who are all working toward the same goal.
For the newbies, this was a chance to learn the ropes (or should I say paddles?) from the more experienced members. And for the old paddlers, it was an opportunity to share their knowledge and keep the team spirit alive. Everyone had a role to play, and everyone contributed to the success of the session.
What We Can Learn from the Falcons

So, what can we learn from the Desert Falcons? First, teamwork makes the dream work. Whether you’re rowing a boat or working on a group project, working together is the key to success. Second, starting your day with a bit of exercise can set the tone for the rest of the day. And finally, don’t be afraid to try something new—you might just discover a hidden talent or make some amazing friends along the way.
