The first day of the Shangri-La Abu Dhabi Dragon Boat Festival on October 19, 2024, was nothing short of spectacular! Teams from all over the region gathered to compete in high-energy races, and our very own Desert Falcons dragon boat team, along with Damen Dragons and Damen Dragons 2, were right in the middle of the action.

From the early morning races to the afternoon finals, it was a day filled with excitement, team spirit, and some fierce competition. Here’s a recap of how the Desert Falcons dragon boat team and their Damen counterparts performed throughout the day.

Strong Start for Desert Falcons in the Open 200m

The day began with the Desert Falcons dragon boat team hitting the water for the Open 200m in Heat 3. Our team showed incredible coordination and speed, finishing with a time of 55.90 seconds, in a very competitive heat. Despite the tough competition, the Falcons paddled with grit and determination, setting the tone for an intense and action-packed festival.

Although the race was challenging, it was a promising start that energized the whole team. As the day progressed, we were confident that our next races would bring even stronger performances.

Women’s Team Triumphs in Rep 2 with First Place Finish

One of the day’s most exciting moments came from the Desert Falcons dragon boat team in the Women’s 200m race. In Heat 4, the women’s team paddled hard and finished with a time of 1:04.87, securing 4th place. Nevertheless, this was just the beginning

When it came time for Rep 2 of the Women’s 200m, the Falcons truly soared. They dominated the race, finishing as Fastest in repechage allowing the team to proceed to semi final. The victory was well-earned, and everyone was thrilled. It was a proud moment for the women’s crew, who worked together flawlessly to claim the top spot. As a result, the team’s morale was higher than ever.

Damen Teams Show Strength in the Community Cup Final

The day’s action didn’t stop there. In the highly anticipated Community Cup Final, both Damen Dragons and Damen Dragons 2 gave it their all. Damen Dragons 2 put on an incredible show, finishing with a time of 1:08.21, which earned them an impressive 2nd place! Meanwhile, Damen Dragons finished strong with a time of 1:14.07, placing 4th in the final.

The performances from both Damen teams were a true testament to their teamwork and perseverance. While the competition was tough, their hard work and dedication shone through, inspiring everyone who watched.
